When an image is properly matted, the matting serves to compliment and enhance the print. The matting leads the eye directly into the print; leaving the viewer only vaguely aware that there is matting surrounding the print. If done properly, matting can serve to enhance both the viewing pleasure of a print and its longevity.
We only provide one type of matting for our prints. If you elect to purchase a matted print then we will provide Bainbridge 100% cotton acid-free ArtCare AlphaRag matting. This is arguably the industry's premier museum quality preservation mat board and will help ensure your print will remain undamaged by acids or other environmental contaminants. This is a much more costly solution than other matting options you may find elsewhere, but it is true conservation matting and is worth every penny if you care about the longevity of your art. To ensure our customers are never disappointed with our artworks, we only supply the absolute best matting available today.
We provide double matting for all of our prints. Double matting consists of two layers of Bainbridge mat board cut with a decorative bevel. To ensure compatibility with any decor and image, we provide white matting for all of our artworks. This works best for almost every artwork. If you have a specific matting color in mind, however, give us a call and we'll work with you to accommodate your needs.

As an option you may elect to have your artwork distinctively
embellished with a series of unique mat treatments. These embellishments include
printing the image title and location behind a rectangular cutout in the front
matting. We also commonly provide two auxiliary mat cutouts behind which are mounted
smaller images bearing a relationship to the purchased print. We consider these smaller images to be the photographer's equivalent of the painter's remarque. If you elect Mat Embellishments we will include two "remarques" with your matted print. Each "remarque" is printed on the same museum quality paper as the larger print and the subject and colors of the "remarque" images are selected to complement the theme and colors of the purchased print. We endeavor to be creative and strive to ensure that each mat embellishment is different and unique - providing a lasting distinction for your art piece. |
