| As the sun rose over Turret Arch I was busily taking pictures of it and of several other arches in the area. I stopped for a few moments to look for interesting images and lighting patterns when I noticed this lone pine tree that was not yet illuminated by the rising sun. Realizing that it would be quite spectacular when silhoutted against the brightly lit arch, I scrambled to take the picture before light encompassed the tree. This small tree acts as such a counterpoint to the massive arch, both in its size and illumination. The general shape of the tree also hints at the contour of the arch, providing a certain symmetry and balance to the image. Had I not stopped to review my photographic options I would have certainly missed this wonderful and enchanting play of glorious light and deep shadow. |
